Questions about the free 3D animation tool
Formats, quality, privacy and the practical limits — in plain terms.
Is Frames really free?
Yes. No account, no trial period, no watermark, no limit on exports. Everything runs on your own device, so there is no hosting bill behind it to recover.
Which 3D file formats are supported?
GLB and glTF, including Draco- and Meshopt-compressed files. FBX, OBJ, STL and CAD formats need converting to GLB first — in Blender, File → Export → glTF 2.0 (.glb).
Is my 3D model uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser opens the file locally and renders it on your GPU. Nothing is transmitted or stored. You can confirm it by loading a model with your network disconnected.
What video format and quality do I get?
MP4 (H.264) where the browser supports it — Chrome and Edge do — otherwise WebM (VP9). Choose 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 4K, 1080×1920 vertical or 1080 square, at 30 or 60 fps and 8–120 Mbps. The frame is rendered at that exact pixel size regardless of your window.
Can I export images with a transparent background?
Yes. Screenshots are PNG at up to 8K, and the transparent option gives a real alpha channel so the product can sit on any background you like.
Can I use the results commercially?
Yes — client work, ads, marketplace listings, anything. You are responsible for holding the rights to the 3D model you load.
Which browsers work?
Any modern browser with WebGL 2: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari. Video recording uses the MediaRecorder API, so MP4 comes from Chrome and Edge, WebM from Firefox, and older Safari versions may not record at all — screenshots still work everywhere.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
It loads and renders, and the panels collapse to fit small screens. Heavy models and 4K recording are much more comfortable on a desktop GPU.
How big a model can I load?
There is no hard limit; it depends on your device memory. A few hundred thousand triangles is comfortable on a typical laptop. Very heavy CAD exports are worth decimating first.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After the first visit the app is cached and can be installed to your desktop or home screen, then used with no connection.
Can I animate a character or a rigged model?
Not yet — Frames animates the camera and lighting around an object, and can move copies of it, but it does not play skeletal animation baked into a glTF file.
Where are my exports saved?
Wherever your browser puts downloads. Clips and stills appear as a download link when they finish; they are not kept in the page, so save them before reloading.
